Job Description

Stept Studios, a commercial production company, seeks a motivated full-time in person Jr. Production Accountant to become an integral part of our Finance team in our El Segundo office. This person will play a key role in the daily accounting needs for several productions. We are consistently working on 10+ projects concurrently (docu-series / documentaries / branded content / commercials) and are looking for the right person to join our fast growing financial team.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
– Handle all Financial aspects of a Project from start to finish. Reconcile costs, report and quantify overages, underages, successes and failures.
– Liaison closely with our Production and Finance Teams to ensure our productions run smoothly, on budget, and within company policies.
– Take ownership of each project or show assigned to you, be excited to learn and have a positive attitude.
– Analyze Cost Reports for comparison to budget, understand the operations of each production and guide your projects through our financial workflows. Complete Project Wrap process to reflect current situation & contribute to weekly production meetings with the management team on each of your productions.
– Act as the first level of finance support for Producers, playing a key role in cost management.
– Review and approve weekly production payroll time cards and backup for freelancers across multiple projects and states (ADP, Media Services and Wrapbook).
– Work closely with payroll companies to ensure accurate and timely paychecks. Some knowledge of labor laws, payroll taxes and procedures, guild, union and non-union rules is helpful.
– Ensure timely and accurate payment of wire requests, expense reports and invoices pertaining to each project.
– Review and approve a high volume of credit card transactions. Audit receipt backup and coding.
– Organize all incoming digital paperwork – invoices, payroll edits, wire confirmations, approvals, etc to our online paperless filing system (Google Drive).
– Check Accuracy of W-9s provided by vendors and ensure vendor information is up to date in the accounting system.
– Review 1099 Audits for each of your projects and make corrections as needed. Assist in annual 1099 filing.
– Support the Business Affairs and Finance Team with a multitude of diverse tasks and reports.
– Work with all teams to constantly brainstorm and improve production processes and efficiencies.
– Provide quick and accurate analysis.
– Absorb everything that comes across your desk, ask questions, continue to expand production knowledge.

Attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through skills are of the highest importance.

We would PREFER:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or finance preferred.
Minimum 2-3 years prior accounting experience, preferably in a production or similar. Looking for full-time, 40 – 45 hours a week.
Knowledge of Quickbooks Online, Showbiz Budgeting , Hot Budget, Movie Magic or other production accounting software is extremely helpful.
Previous production accounting experience in either non-scripted or commercials is an advantage, any production/project accounting experience is a plus.
