Production Accountant Needed Part Time for Documentaries (West Los Angeles)

Independent film & television studio seeks an experienced Senior Production Accountant with a strong understanding of documentary film accounting.

The role is currently a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week); in-office a minimum of 1 to 2 days per week (West LA). Candidate must be located in the Los Angeles area and able to work in office a minimum of 1 to 2 days per week. Rate for qualified individuals starts at $50/hour, depending on experience.

Production Accountant needed for TV and Docs Divisions at A24 (New York or Los Angeles)

The Role:

A24 is looking to hire a Production Accountant to support our TV and Docs divisions. As a key member of our TV and Documentary production teams, along with our Corporate Accounting team, this role will be involved in all aspects of production finance from development through post production. This role will work closely with the Production, Post, and Creative teams, as well as the Corporate Finance and Accounting teams to ensure A24 production accounting procedures are met, accountants are onboarded properly onto A24 systems, and productions are adhering to accounting guidelines throughout the duration of production.

This role can be based in either our NY or LA office.

Initial Responsibilities:

Managing projects’ accounting staffing during development, prep, production and post production
Responsible for ensuring set up of bank account, payroll, pcard, and accounting systems on each project
Handling accounting responsibilities such as accounts payable, payroll, journal entries, etc. for full lifecycle of projects (early prep, development, writers room, post production, and delivery)
Providing guidance and oversight to on-set accountants during production, as it relates to onboarding, introducing processes, and sharing accounting manuals and templates
Overseeing the accounting wrap and delivery process
Liaising with A24 production partners’ or networks’ production finance & accounting teams
Managing various audits including tax credits, insurance claims, union audits, and partner specific audits
Working closely with multiple internal and external teams to be liaison for all things production accounting for TV and Docs departments
Ideal Candidate:

2 to 3 years of previous experience with production accounting
Experience working in-house for a studio or production company in a production finance / accounting role
Experience working with production accounting softwares and Movie Magic Budgeting
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field preferred
Motivated self-starter skilled in multitasking, time management, and strong organizational skills
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel
Humble, diligent and resourceful

Production Accountant for Prod Co (Los Angeles)

Beyond Productions is a leading international production company with over 5,000 hours of global television to it’s credit. Beyond has a number of experienced program makers who create and produce programs across a number of genres, with a focus on factual entertainment, family and documentary programs and series.

We’re looking for a candidate who embodies a team first mentality, adapts easily to change and has a close attention to detail. Beyond is Headquartered in Sydney, Australia, so a lot of the accounting processes are different than most US-based companies.

DETAILS:
– Role: Production Accountant
– Start Date: December 19
– Full time, 1 year contract
– Location: LA based, working from home until we go back into offices early 2023

DAY-TO-DAY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process payment requests for Checks, ACH’s and WIRES. Make sure proper documentation and approvals have been submitted, print check(s) or set-up electronic payment, process payment into the system. Payments are entered into the system using Excel templates imported with the Q&A module, then accepted and allocated into the SUN system
Process Credit Card expense reports into the system for ongoing productions, and reconcile individual cardholder balances on a monthly-statement basis.
Manage Petty Cash distribution (in Cash), and process and track petty cash.
Generate Monthly Cost Reports and matching TRWIPS (aka Ledgers) for all LA Office titles that have budgets.
Fix or Repair Cost Reports (generated in excel) that have either formula errors, coding errors or other systemic issue that prevents the Cost Report actuals from matching the TRWIP actuals. This task requires a high level of Excel skills, especially for authoring and comprehending basic Excel formulas, formatting, and most especially, a mastery of the SUMIF function.
Process WIP Moves (aka Journal Entries) as needed to move expenses within a ledger or between ledgers.
Manually maintain and update a Check Registry with adjusted account balance, mostly used for Cash Flow reports
Generate a weekly 13-Week projection of Cash Flow for the LA Office bank account.
Manually maintain and update payee W9s, and a yearly 1099 tracker.
Fill-in for 2nd Accountant to process payroll and development payments when the 2nd Accountant is on vacation or not available.

Production Accountant for Prod Co (New York / Los Angeles)

Growing production company seeks an experienced production accountant.  Initially the position is to
be the lead production accountant on a 4×60 premium documentary series but has the potential to
continue at the company as we build out our television finance department.
The accountant is expected to perform typical production accounting duties such as, but not limited to,
cost reporting for the network, AP, payroll, and reporting to our corporate finance department. We
currently use Cast & Crew/PSL but working knowledge of other accounting software systems such as
Smart Accounting or Greenslate is helpful should we make a change. Experience working in foreign
production is a plus. Also experience working with Apple, Netflix and other major streamers is also
preferred.
Position will start on or around October 17th or 24th and go full time for approximately a year with the
potential to continue as mentioned above. Offices are based in NY or LA and remote work is possible.

Duties:

Manage and oversee corporate accounting for Campside, including:

-Provide and ensure timely completion of all financial reporting and reconciliations in order to coordinate with external tax accountants to ensure compliance with IRS regulations
-Work with CEO and operations team to prepare production accounting reporting for quarterly board meetings

Provide Production Accounting for Campside Podcast productions. Tasks include:
-Work with the operations team to redesign production accounting systems, including creation of an Accounting Policy Manual for our productions.
-Work with Executive Producers and the Operations team to prepare podcast budgets and cash flow analysis at the start of each show
-Prepare biweekly updates comparing actuals to date, versus budgeted costs.
-Provide high-level interpretation/analysis of costs to date on our productions to COO and founders taking into account projections for estimated final costs for each podcast in production.
-Prepare final cost reports and close out books for each production.
-Complete all payments to freelance/contract production staff and outside vendors (with assistance from operations team)

Qualifications:
Certified Public Accountant and experience with GAAP accounting is a plus
Experience with production accounting for narrative podcasts, documentary films, or other longform nonfiction, and excitement about applying that knowledge in a small startup environment
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of production accounting and industry software
Skilled at detailed record-keeping
Ability to identify work priorities and requirements and make timely decisions
Anticipate problems and troubleshoot proactively
Confidently and respectfully interact with founders, all levels of staff, vendors, and external contacts
Ability to communicate accounting info to non-accountants
Discretion with confidential and sensitive information
